Painter and crochet textile artist
Marta Vila Delgado was born in Lleida in 1980 and studied Arts and Crafts at EMBA “El Roser,” specializing in mural techniques. The central motif of her painting is the TREE.
She draws inspiration from the countryside of L'Horta de Lleida in Catalonia, Spain. Serialism emerges in her work when she paints trees arranged in horizontal rows, creating a hypnotic landscape. Anxiety has been one of the forces that led her to rediscover her profession and vocation as an artist.
For Marta, each tree represents a doorway to a memory, an experience, a moment. Each brushstroke is an internal movement, a journey into the subconscious, where every canvas manifests a mental landscape: a “mind map” that allows her to perceive more clearly the path she is following.
Interest in textile art emerged shortly before the birth of her son, when crochet was discovered about ten years ago.
Each stitch, hand-crafted with a crochet hook, represents the TREE, continuing a repetitive pattern to create landscapes drawn from the subconscious.
Natural plant fibers such as hemp and jute are combined with perlé cotton threads to achieve subtle variations of color.
Inspiration consistently arises from the natural surroundings of the countryside where the family lives, establishing a profound connection with nature. This close relationship with the environment has also guided the selection of sustainable materials for each piece.
Incorporation of reused fibers allows for the creation of both intimate and large-scale works. Each piece is unique and abstract, echoing stages of life, including motherhood and parenting.
